Today was all about nature. This is the first time either of us has been to Virginia and it is beautiful! The wind still has a chill in it and everything is green.
We spent the day driving down the Blue Ridge Parkway thru the mountains. Every so often there would be a scenic overlook to stop and look out over the mountains. One of the stops was Mabry Mill. Built in the early 1900s and using water to power the mill, people would come from all over to have corn ground into corn meal. The wheel still slowly fills with water and turns on this old wooden building. Flowers were blooming throughout the property and the whole place smelled like perfume. We had food in our cooler so we decided to have a picnic.
We ended up in Roanoke, VA. As we roamed around town we saw a place that looked fun- The Mellow Mushroom. The Mushroom is a pizza place that has been around since 1974- a great year, I must say. We each ordered a personal pizza and a salad. I cant remember ever having a more delicious pizza. No wonder the place has been here for so many years!! Roanoke may be our home for a few days. The town, the weather, our hotel...all perfect. We have no idea what will be our adventure for tomorrow, so stay tuned!
Practically since the day we met, Loren and I have been sharing "wonderings" and "wanderings". We have already been on countless adventures. We are here to share our random experiences and travels with friends and family- but also as a place for us to go back and remember our journeys. Enjoy!
