...the lion sleeps tonite! Did I get you singing? I hope so. I have been singing it all day in my head. Now I can share the joy!
Today we went to the Mill Mountain Zoo. It is a small zoo on top of the mountain that also has a giant star that can be seen all over Roanoke. With the cooler air and the early time that we went, the animals were mostly all active and alert. While we really didnt see a lion, we saw many other creatures. The otters were fun to watch play. One had a pet rock and he would just roll all around holding his rock in his front two paws. We met a Marmoset with the same hair do as George Costanza from Seinfeld, so that's of course what we named him. I am not sure I have ever seen this animal. He was tiny, looked like part monkey, part rodent, and had a cute pig nose. We spent a lot of time watching the snow leopard named Bali. He was quite the show off. He jumped to the top of his rocks and did a handstand for us. Then he decided to explore the baby pool that was just put into his enclosure today. He spent time swatting the water with his paws. Finally, he picked up the edge and dumped all the water out. He looked around, quite proud of himself. Such a naughty kitty! One animal we didnt see was the red panda. Apparently she is a bit of a diva and stays mostly in her bed which is in an air conditioned part of her enclosure.
We went to Walmart for some groceries and planned to have lunch, rest, and then go downtown to some attractions there. The "rest" somehow turned into a 5 hour nap. Needless to say, our evening activities didnt happen. That's ok. We slept thru a thunderstorm that obviously lulled us into a long nap.
We will find a new Roanoke adventure for tomorrow, so stay tuned!
Practically since the day we met, Loren and I have been sharing "wonderings" and "wanderings". We have already been on countless adventures. We are here to share our random experiences and travels with friends and family- but also as a place for us to go back and remember our journeys. Enjoy!
