Again, I am a day late. I realized that after a long day of activities and fun- the blog just might not happen until the next morning.
Today we took a train ride. We rode on a steam engine up into the Redwoods. The train left from an old depot called Roaring Camp. There was an old school house, general store, panning for gold, and other fun "touristy" attractions.
When the train arrived, there was a mad dash to get onto a covered car, as it was a unseasonably hot day. I am lucky that Loren is big and is not afraid to push his way through crowds. We ended up with a primo seat in a covered car.
The train took us over narrow bridges with sheer drops and around giant redwood trees. Unfortunately, our serene trip through the forest was interrupted by a child that we named the greased pig. This toddler had 4 adult women trying to hold on to her. We were sure she was going to drop over the side of the train because these women kept grasping and losing this kid- like at a greased pig event at the rodeo. The only time said pig would settle down or stop screaming is when it was being fed, so each adult woman consistently held a variety of sweets and cakes out to distract the slippery child. On the way back down the hill, another child decided to join the greased pig contest and yet another set of adults were wrestling with a toddler. Oy.
Despite the distractions, we loved being out in nature and seeing the ancient old trees. Tomorrow (or today, really) we are soooo excited to be going on the new extended tour of the Winchester Mystery House, so stay tuned...
