Day #4- Get Your Kicks On Route 66

Today was a travel day.  We left Albuquerque and made our way to Grand Canyon Caverns via the old route 66.  No Hwy 40 for us!  It has always been bucket list to travel route 66.  Talk about dreams crushed.  With very few exceptions, the wonder that was route 66 is now derelict buildings and skeletons of the past.  Then, right at our turn for the caverns- there was an amazing little area with kitchy shops, Road Kill Cafe, and other fun funky places.  We roamed around there for awhile and then headed 20 more miles to our home for the night.  Pulling into Caverns Inn was like a dream come true!  It had a life sized dinosaur, old cars, a really cute putt putt course, Betty Boop lounge...what I imagined Route 66 was like in its prime.  We were truly out in the middle of nowhere.   No Wi-Fi, no cell service, no room phone...totally of the grid here.  That's ok with us.  We just sat out looking at the stars, enjoyed the cool temps, and kept our eyes out for ghosts at this known haunted place.  Haunted tour of the caverns tomorrow...stay tuned!
